Powering Skills Organisation
CONTEXT

Context
The Powering Skills Organisation (PSO) is Australia’s energy workforce development council, tasked with addressing the skills pipeline needed to meet the nation’s net zero goals. In August 2025, PSO launched the 2025 Energy Sector Workforce Plan (WFP) at Parliament House in Canberra, outlining the need for an additional 42,000 skilled energy workers by 2030.
OUR WORK
Our Work
PSO engaged Horizon to drive media visibility and position the WFP as a landmark report shaping Australia’s clean energy transition. Our objective was to generate strong, positive coverage across national, state, trade, and business media.
Horizon developed and executed a comprehensive media strategy that included:
- Media releases supported with infographics, FAQs, Q&As, case studies, and photography.
- Invitations and management of national press gallery and trade media attendance at the Canberra launch.
Pre-launch embargoed distribution of the report and assets to key journalists.

RESULTS

Results
Horizon’s launch event activity delivered extensive national coverage and elevated PSO’s profile as the authority on energy workforce issues:
- 173 media mentions across three days (Aug 27–29), including print, online, radio, and TV.
- 4.3 million potential audience reach, ensuring the WFP and its findings were widely disseminated.
- Coverage spanned major outlets including ABC News (online and broadcast), the West Australian (AAP), Sustainability Matters, and PV Magazine.
- Dominant themes highlighted PSO’s call for 42,000 additional skilled workers by 2030 and the urgency of scaling TAFE and apprenticeship training.
Through strategic planning, proactive media management, and compelling content, Horizon positioned PSO at the centre of the national conversation on workforce planning, clean energy, and Australia’s path to net zero.
