CONTEXT

Context
Since 2023, Horizon has worked with Coles on a range of sustainability projects.
In 2023, Coles developed an ambitious new sustainability strategy to deliver on the retailer’s ambition to become Australia’s most sustainable supermarket.
Coles engaged Horizon to develop a suite of strategic messaging and communications decks to help build internal awareness and understanding of the strategy’s core pillars – including biodiversity, plastic packaging, emissions reductions and food waste.
The decks were extremely well received across the organisation – and Coles has subsequently engaged Horizon to support its corporate communications and sustainability teams on a range of additional projects. This includes stakeholder mapping on key issues, communications strategies to get staff engaged and excited about Coles’ investment in the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, and ad hoc support to prepare Coles’ spokespeople for speaking engagements, including developing speaking notes and presentation decks.
In 2025, Horizon worked with Coles to develop a suite of educational resources aimed at suppliers to the supermarket, encouraging them to set science-based targets to accelerate their work towards reducing their emissions.
Horizon produced video case studies, infographics, animations and fact sheets which will be uploaded to the Coles supplier portal to guide the work of hundreds of businesses across the country.
